The NATA Entrance Examination dates are out. NATA is one of the most significant Entrance Exams to be given by aspiring architects, aiming to get into a good University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in architecture (B. Arch).

With the release of the important dates for the NATA Examination 2020, there are a few other changes that have been bought into effect this year regarding the NATA 2020 Exam Pattern, eligibility criteria and much more. Nata 2020 modified Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for NATA 2020 is as follows:

Mode of Exam: Online & Offline

Exam date: 19th April- Phase 1

Exam time and duration- 10:00 am to 1:15 pm (3 hours & 15 minutes)

Total Marks – 200

Part A- Drawing test (Offline)- 3 questions- 135 minutes

Break period of 15 minutes– 12:15 to 12:30 pm

Question type & duration for each: Part B– MCQ(Online)- 50 questions- 45 minutes 

Marking pattern

Part A MCQ’s1.5 marks for each question, no negative marking

Part B (Drawing test)- 35 marks, 55 marks, 35 marks– 3 questions

 Eligibility criteria for NATA

  • Candidates who have completed 10+2 with an aggregate passing marks of 50% as well as 50% minimum marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible.
  • Candidates who have completed 10+3, diploma with 50% marks in any stream, with Mathematics as a compulsory subject recognised by Central or State government are also eligible.
  • Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL category or PwD (Person with disability) categories need to have 45% total aggregate marks in 10+2/ 10+3 Diploma as well as 45% in PCM.
  • Candidates to note that there is no lateral admission allowed in any stage of the B.Arch. course.
  • Candidates who appear in the NATA Entrance exam Phase 1, are also eligible to re-apply for the Phase-2 entrance exams.

Some of the parameters based on which the Candidates will be assessed or judged in the drawing test are as follows:

  • Concept about Proportion and Scale
  • Composition and Shape
  • Visualizing and drawing the effects of lights and shadows cast by the object on the surroundings.
  • Form transformations in 2D and 3D like union, subtraction, rotation, surfaces and volumes.
  • Perspective drawing- Combining and creating three dimensional elements that are given to form a building or structural form.
  • To understand and create a visual harmony using colours given in composition.
  • Sketching of urban scape and landscape
  • Drawing from memory- Common day-to-day life objects like furniture equipment. 

Application fee details

  • All candidates applying for the NATA Exam 2020 are required to pay a test fee of 2000
  • If the candidate wishes to appear in both the phases of the Exam, he/she is required to pay a few of 3800
  • The SC/ST and PwD category candidates have to pay a test fee of 1700, if they wish to appear for both phases the fees to be paid is Rs. 3100.
