NIFT Entrance Exam 2019 was conducted on January 20. Students aspiring for B.Des had to appear for two tests, namely: CAT and GAT. The NIFT 2019 GAT examination was as per the standard of NIFT question papers.

As per the student’s feedback, Creative Ability Test (CAT) paper was easy. There was a mixed reaction to GAT paper, as some students found it difficult while others found it easy.

GAT paper: NIFT GAT 2019 examination was for 100 marks. The questions asked in GAT were also as per their standard format. The total number of questions that were asked in GAT is mentioned below:

General English– the 25 general English questions that were asked were mainly related to synonyms, antonyms, the meaning of idioms.

Reasoning & Mathematics –  Work and time, Time and speed (questions no trains), LCM HCF, Profit and loss, Ratio and proportion, Simple interest and compound interest, Age-related questions, Simple arithmetic equations etc. For example: Heights of 5 friends were given with pointers with 5 questions based on Pointers like: who was the shortest, who 2 had equal height etc.

General Knowledge – Some of the questions asked are as follows:

  1. Who owns FBB brand?
  2. Nebula 18K gold watch was released by which company?
  3. Start something new – is the tagline for which brand?
  4. Live fit – from which brand?
  5. What is the date and month for the Quit India movement?
  6. In whose name is India’s national education day (11th September) celebrated?
  7. Who is the author of Malgudi days?
  8. Which city was the largest dome in the world inaugurated by the vice president of India?
  9. Who was captain of the Indian women’s cricket team in the Caribbean tour?

The questions asked in CAT paper were as mentioned below:

Question 1. From the following choices design any one product for the year 2050

Umbrella, Lunch box, Door lock

– 30 MARKS

Question 2: Given the basic geometric shapes – rectangle, circle, hexagon, right-angled triangle, triangle over a circle (teardrop), you can rotate, repeat but not slice create any one product given below and explain in 100 words.

Letterbox, Personal computer, Windchime

– 30 MARKS

Question 3: In the 4 boxes given, illustrate any one of the following

Bird flying taking flight, Rose bud to bloom, Steps of a wet shirt being dried.

– 40 MARKS

The result of NIFT 2019- CAT, GAT is expected in February 2019, post which the Situation test shall be conducted. For students aspiring to become a Fashion designer, one must be able to qualify NIFT CAT, GAT and Situation test. Only after the Part I- CAT and Gat are cleared a student becomes eligible for Situation test. The comprehensive result shall be declared by the fourth week of February or March first week.
